Mazeppa Bay
Situated on the rugged Transkei Coast of South Africa, Mazeppa Bay is one of the most productive areas for Land Based Shark Fishing. The land falls away sharply into the sea resulting in deep water close inshore allowing land based fishermen to target large sharks and rays.
Mazeppa Bay has 3 deep water fishing points namely Shark Point, the Island and the Boiling Pot.
The main feature is the island, a dominant headland separated from the beach by a channel of shallow water. One is able to wade to the island at low tide but at high tide the suspension bridge is used.
The Boiling Pot on the southern headland is aptly named and is probably one of the easiest deepwater fishing spots, although difficult to land a fish. To the north Shark Point has over the years produced many large sharks of over 100kg.
The Sodwana Bay area is renowned for its scuba diving and deep sea fishing, but is also a great spot for land based shark fishing and the guides from Maverick Adventure Fishing
have landed a number of sharks and rays in the 100 to 120kg category while fishing off the long sandy beaches.
These sub-tropical waters alson give the angler a chance to try for game fish with the Giant
Kingfish or Jack (Caranx Ignobilis), often being landed.
A short trip further north is Kosi Bay which is one of the few places in the world where one can snorkel over a coral reef situated in the lagoon
